Cherry Hills Farm West - Great Room

Denver Architect Robert Larsen designed the interior architecture of this dramatic Great Room, including its extensive custom woodwork and fireplace detailing. The walls and 20-foot-high ceilings are clad in rift-cut oak paneling enriched with raised moldings. Custom wood profiles form the substantial casings surrounding the ten-foot-tall arched doors and windows, while Larsen-designed oak scrolls ornament the tops of the door openings. To illuminate the lofty ceiling without the glare of conventional recessed downlights, Larsen designed wall-mounted wood and polished-brass enclosures that conceal indirect light fixtures and integrate them into the room's architectural detailing. The monumental fireplace provides the room's principal focal point. Its highly articulated ornamental brickwork was inspired by masonry Larsen observed on historic warehouse buildings in downtown Denver. Above the custom-carved oak mantel, dramatic book-matched marble panels rise toward the ceiling, completing a composition scaled to the extraordinary height and proportions of the room.

Cherry Hills Farm West - Great Room

This view of the Great Room highlights the carefully composed rift-cut oak paneling and the extraordinary scale of the 20-foot-high space. Three ten-foot-tall arched French doors are framed by substantial custom-profiled oak casings, with carved scroll details above providing a transition into the geometric pattern of the paneled walls. Two circular windows high on the wall bring additional daylight into the upper portion of the room and emphasize its height. The richly detailed oak paneling continues upward across the ceiling, where large recessed panels and layered moldings give architectural definition to the expansive overhead plane. Custom wall-mounted enclosures conceal indirect light fixtures designed to wash the upper walls and ceiling with light while avoiding the glare that conventional recessed downlights would create in such a tall room.

Decorative Scroll & Indirect Light Fixture Enclosure

Architect Robert Larsen specified indirect lighting to illuminate the woodwork of the 20-foot-high ceilings, avoiding conventional recessed downlights that would create distracting glare for viewers below. Larsen designed custom wall-mounted enclosures of wood and polished brass to support and conceal the light fixtures, integrating the lighting into the architectural detailing of the room.

Cherry Hills Farm West - Library

Denver Architect Robert Larsen designed the oak woodwork for this home library, including custom cabinets, mirror-backed arched-top niche, wall paneling and coffered ceiling.

Basement Rec Room & Bar

This lower-level Family Room was designed by Denver Architect Robert Larsen for relaxed entertaining, with a custom snack bar and mirrored back bar forming the focal point of the space. Rustic stonework, brick arches, wood cabinetry and ceiling details create a warm architectural character, while the billiards area and intimate seating alcoves provide a variety of gathering spaces.

Custom Woodwork - Home Library

This elegant Home Library is richly detailed with custom mahogany paneling, an arched paneled opening, and an intricately articulated wood ceiling. Radiating ceiling beams converge at the center of the room, while layered cornice moldings and paneled walls create a warm, intimate setting for the carved stone fireplace. And here the relationship becomes very clear. Her Home Office continues the rich mahogany detailing of the adjoining Library, with paneled walls, built-in bookcases, deeply molded cornices, and an elaborate coffered wood ceiling. Boulder Modern Residence Interior Architecture

This contemporary interior demonstrates Denver Architect Robert Larsen’s approach to modern interior architecture. A sweeping curved wall clad in light-finished wood paneling forms the principal architectural feature of the two-story space. Dark wood reveals divide the panels into a carefully proportioned geometric grid, punctuated by diamond-shaped wood accents. Larsen carried this diamond motif into the custom-designed metal railings, where open geometric diamond patterns provide a visual counterpoint to the more solid wood-paneled wall. Repeating the motif in two very different materials creates continuity throughout the interior and ties the various levels of the space together. White plaster walls and light stone flooring provide a restrained backdrop, allowing the warmth, geometry, and craftsmanship of the custom woodwork and railings to define the contemporary character of the interior.

Parker CO - Poolside Entertainment Space

This expansive covered outdoor living area, located beneath a new deck, creates a sheltered transition between the existing residence and the new swimming pool. Stone arches and walls, heavy timber beams, a wood-plank ceiling, and a large stone fireplace give the space a warm, substantial character, while multiple seating areas provide places for relaxing and entertaining. To the left, the new in-ground pool is enclosed by a retractable greenhouse structure, allowing the pool and adjoining outdoor spaces to be enjoyed through an extended season.

Parker CO - Wine Bar and Wine Cellar separated by Glass Partition

This custom Home Bar and Wine Cellar combines richly detailed woodwork with dramatic specialty materials and lighting. Antique bronze panels are incorporated into the paneled woodwork, while an arched brick ceiling illuminated by color-changing concealed uplights adds character overhead. A glass divider separates the bar from the wine cellar while maintaining a visual connection between the spaces, and a backlit onyx panel at the rear of the wine cellar creates a glowing focal point.

Bow Mar Bath Addition

This light-filled Primary Bathroom designed by Denver Architect Robert Larsen combines clean contemporary lines with natural materials and abundant daylight. Marble flooring and surrounds unify the glass-enclosed shower and soaking tub, while the vaulted ceiling and skylight add height and natural light. A large corner window overlooking the landscaped garden gives the bathing area a particularly serene, private connection to the outdoors.

Modern - Powder Room

This intimate Powder Room combines warm textured wall coverings with sleek contemporary detailing. A sculptural metal vessel sink and wall-mounted faucet sit atop a dark stone countertop, while the large oval mirror and suspended pendant lights emphasize the room’s height and give the compact space a distinctive, elegant character.

Modern - Master Bath

This contemporary Primary Bathroom features a large glass-enclosed shower and soaking tub unified by complementary tilework. A horizontal mosaic accent band continues through the shower, while matching inset panels add detail to the tub surround. Warm wood trim and cabinetry provide contrast to the lighter tile, creating a clean, comfortable and understated interior.

Modern - Pool Changing Room Vanity

Custom maple vanity cabinetry and countertop provide a warm, natural character in this Changing Room. Sculptural vessel sinks are paired with contemporary dark bronze faucets, while individual mirrors are illuminated from behind to create a soft glow against the textured plaster walls. Coordinating contemporary light fixtures above the mirrors complete the composition, giving the vanity area a refined, subtly dramatic quality.

Modern - Pool Changing Room Cabinets

Custom changing room lockers and cubbies combine practical storage with finely detailed cabinetry. Cabinet doors feature translucent “3form” architectural resin panels, while the arched central opening provides a convenient changing bench. Open cubbies below provide additional storage, and the light-toned woodwork complements the softly textured wall and ceiling finishes.

This high-rise condominium remodeling presented an unusual lighting challenge: the existing concrete ceiling prevented the use of conventional recessed fixtures. This remodeled portion of the original First of Greeley Bank building retains the drama of its tall banking hall while introducing a more comfortable human scale. A composition of globe pendant fixtures creates a lower visual ceiling plane within the soaring space, bringing the lighting closer to the activity below. Warm wood furnishings, rich red carpeting, and the large textured feature wall give the open banking floor a welcoming character while preserving the spaciousness of the original architecture.
